Modern society not only espouses the prudent management of resources, it also demands it. And this is a view echoed throughout many industries. But such stewardship is fraught with changes that will also have implications for the European paints and coatings industry. The industry is fully cognizant of its responsibility and its commitment to act responsibly and to manufacture in a manner consistent with sustainability - of that there can be no doubt. However, the challenges involved need to be addressed, which is why CEPE has adopted these as its main theme for the CEPE Conference and Annual General Meeting, which takes place from 5 to 7 October 2016 in Lisbon, Portugal. The transition to increasingly sustainable processes and products will impact on existing business processes. While in some cases this might only entail compliance with new (regulatory) requirements, for the most part, higher costs will inexorably ensue. So how should the paints and coatings industry respond?
