Overbased phenolate complex greases

Overbased sulfonate [1] and alkylsalicylate [2] additives, produced by the carbonatation of neutral calcium sulfonates and calcium alkylsalicylates, are used mainly for the improvement of motor oil detergent properties, at the same time the functionality of alkylsalicylate additives is more extensively used than sulfonates [3]. The change in parameters of the carbonatation process allows us to obtain overbased sulfonate [4,5] and alkysalicylate complex greases [6]. The "Elementary particles" of the structural skeleton of overbased sulfonate and alkysalicylate complex greases are micelles (Fig. 1), whose nuclei consist of colloidal calcium carbonate and metaborate (CMB). The micellar envelopes are composed of surfactant molecules of calcium sulfonate or alkylsalicylate and 12-hydroxystearate (CHOS) [7,8].
