Effect of Mulching on Water Supply and Spring Wheat Yield in the Central and Southern Russian Plain

The efficiency of mulching was estimated quantitatively in terms of raising the water supply of agrocenoses and the yield of yield of spring wheat in central and southern regions of the Russian Plain.A numerical experiment was carried out using a model for the formation of a water regime of an agricultural field covered with a mulch layer.It was shown that mean monthyl values of hydrometeorological parameters could be used as initial data.The spatial and temporal variablity in the mulch effect on water supply,water deficit,and the yield of rain-fed spring wheat,as well as on the irrigation rate in irrigated mulched fields was studied.
