The decision of the Supreme Court regarding the seafront at Coatham near Redcar reverses decisions by the local council, a planning inspector, the High Court and the Court of Appeal finding that local people have used the land for "sports and pastimes" for at least 20 years. This means that the land cannot form part of a proposed ￡5 5m housing development.
