Age-Related Changes in Natural Populations of Ixodes pavlovskyi (Ixodinae) from Novosibirsk and Its Environs

The age structure of I. pavlovskyi natural populations from Novosibirsk and its environs was investigated on the basis of fat reserves in the midgut and the fat body of the ticks. A detailed study of I. pavlovskyi carried out at the end of the 1960s (Ushakova and Filippova, 1968; Ushakova et al, 1969; Filippova, 1971) allowed the researchers to characterize in detail its distribution range, the host list of all the development stages, and diagnostic characters of the species, including those of the preimaginal stages. At present, increased attention to this species is related to revealing new traits of its spatial distribution, its predominance over the taiga tick in the territories subjected to recreation and other kinds of anthropogenic impact, asthe result of which abundance of the main groups of its large and medium-sized hosts changes (Livanova et al., 2011).
