It is a great pleasure and an honour for me to be present at this Symposium in the company of so many distinguished colleagues. I also wish to take this opportunity to renew my thanks to Elizabeth Haub for the Prize so generously awarded to me in 1998together with my friend and colleague, Ambassador Razzali Ismael of Malaysia. I also wish to express my appreciation and gratitude to Dr Wolfgang Burhenne for his thinking and action over a great number of years in favour of the global environment and of global cooperation.
