ArcelorMittal Dofasco has two steel producing streams, as shown in Figure 1. The KOBM stream uses one basic oxygen furnace where the tapped heats are refined at the ladle metallurgy facility (LMF 1) and cast at the No. 1 continuous caster (ICC); some grades are processed at the tank degasser prior to casting. The electric arc furnace (EAF) stream uses a twin-shell EAF, where the tapped heats are refined at LMF 2 and cast at 2CC. Several different grades are produced between the two streams, which include: ultralow-carbon; low-carbon; medium-carbon; high-carbon; high-strength, low-alloy (HSLA) and dual-phase steels.
