Trapped in Sirte in central Libya, Islamic State's existence in the country looks in doubt. Forces loyal to Libya's national unity government entered residential areas of the city on Jun. 21, having already seized the port, airport, TV and radio stations. As the noose tightens around the extremist group, analysts are asking where the group might migrate to next or whether it can survive in the previously fertile ground of a still politically chaotic Libya. The group's sudden emergence and almost equally rapid possible demise is also forcing a reassessment of the group's strategy, composition and capabilities both in Libya and the wider North African region.
