US intensifies air campaign against Islamic State in Libya

The United States stepped up its air campaign against Islamic State militants in the Libyan city of Sirte during a four-day period up to 10 October, according to the US military's Africa Command (AFRICOM). An update on the bombing campaign released by AFRI-COM's headquarters on 11 October revealed that 163 targets were hit in 51 airstrikes carried out between 7 and 10 October. This brought the total number of airstrikes up to 261 since the US started its air offensive on 1 August.
