Egypt's presidential race is heating up, with elections that are scheduled for late next month shaping up to be a pivot point in the country's ongoing political transition. With the outcome uncertain and several high-powered candidates now in the running, the election is likely to stir up emotions whatever the outcome, local analysts say. Islamist factions that are on the rise politically, and sometimes opposed to each other, are pitted against more liberal, non-Islamist factions, as well as some candidates representing the old order of former President Hosni Mubarak.
