Trump wants ‘America First’ policy on energy

Presumptive US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, in his frst foray into energy policy, promises to make achieving energy independence — if not energy dominance — a top US foreign policy priority. “We will become energy independent” and cut oil imports from Opec and “hostile nations”, Trump said on 26 May at an oil and gas conference. His “America First” energy plan will rely on expanding the US’ role as a leading producer of oil, natural gas and coal. The EIA projects that the US could be- come a net energy exporter by 2030. But Trump says his policy will help achieve energy independence during his term by abolishing “massive, bureaucratic” regulations that President Barack Obama has imposed on the fossil fuel industry.
