State-controlled mining frm Coal India (CIL) has lowered prices of its higher-heat thermal coal in an attempt to better com- pete with imported fuels, as petroleum coke and Colombian coal have been grabbing market share. The frm adjusted thermal coal prices across all calorifc values on 30 May as it sought to increase its revenues before a rise in staff wages. The company expects to increase miners’ wages in July.
