Marathon’s $2.2bn Detroit heavy oil upgrade project was 85pc complete at the end of 2011, and is on budget and on schedule for completion in the third quarter of 2012, the refiner said. The project, which will increase heavy oil capacity at the refinery by 80,000 b/d, includes a two-drum delayed coker, a hydrogen plant, a 33,000 b/d distillate hydrotreater, and a 280 mt/day sulphur recovery complex. The two coker drums ar- rived from Spain at the end of 2010 (EAPC, 4 May, 2011, p6).
