Marathon Petroleum is restarting units following major turnaround work to shift to a heavy crude slate and ramp up production at its 120,000 b/d refinery in Detroit. The refinery began a 70-day shutdown after the September Labor Day holiday as part of its heavy oil upgrade project. A new coker will provide an 80,000 b/d increase in heavy oil processing capability, boosting it to 100,000 b/d. Total crude capacity will increase to 120,000 b/d.
