The current Local Authority spending cuts have naturally involved a review of all the services they provide, and one area in which the cost can be thought to outweigh the benefit is the provision of sports pitches. Such facilities are seen as a relatively easy target and are increasingly considered for a change in strategy and indeed the question is raised - should the Local Authority fund sports?
