The present invention concerns a procedure to increase the accuracy of local weather forecasts, where weather radar equipment in transport aircraft (4) records weather data and transmits data to one or more ground stations during flight over a data link. The weather data will then be made available to the weather services together with the relevant time and place information to create local weather forecasts. The process allows the creation of weather forecasts with improved spatial and temporal resolution.
