EXPLORING THE CONCEPT OF ECO-TOWNS

One of the most talked about subjects in the world today is that of climate change. There is much debate relating to its causes and how it could be reduced. However, there is a general consensus that it is an urgent issue with serious consequences for our future if itis not addressed. The Kyoto Protocol agreement of 1997 outlines that all countries must come together to reduce CO_2 and the UK Government has set targets to reduce carbon emissions of 60% by 2050. Research shows that almost 50% of the UK's emissions come from energy use in buildings and 25% of CO_2 emissions come from energy used for domestic purposes. Itis understandable that designing homes that require less energy to run, are constructed of green locally produced materials and use alternative cleaner energies, will have a positive impact on reducing climate change.
