OVERVIEW OF 'SPRINKLERS FOR SAFETY'

In 1994 BAFSA (or BASA as it was then) commissioned Arup Fire to prepare a document entitled the 'Uses and Benefits of Sprinklers'. This document, having been in circulation for over ten years, was in need of updating to reflect not only advancements in sprinkler technology, but also that of fire safety legislation. Consequently Arup Fire were given the brief to update, renew and refresh the existing document and amend as appropriate to reflect the current status of sprinklers in buildings and structures. Arup Fire was given a free rein in the preparation of the document and as a consequence the document produced today represents a non-biased view on the uses and benefits of incorporating sprinklers in buildings and structures. The purpose of the document is to facilitate an informed decision to be made regarding the inclusion of sprinklers within buildings and structures. It examines and identifies not only the life safety, or legislative requirements for sprinklers, but also additional benefits and advantages that can be gained from providing sprinklers.
