Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) is a multipurpose crop which is grown both for its fibres and seeds. Recent research has shown that the cultivation technique (i.e. plant population, genotype, harvest time, harvesting system, environment of cultivation) caninfluence the production of hemp fibre in terms of quantity and quality (Amaducci et al., 2002; Amaducci et al., 2005; Amaducci et al., 2008). In our work a selection of monoecious and dioecious genotypes commercially available and present on the European variety list were cultivated for 2 years in the North of Italy; stem yield and fibre quality were determined at beginning and end of flowering.
