REMANUFACTURERS MIGHT BE busier than they were at this time last year but the unpredictable exchange rate is still a problem and this, together with rising labour, energy and freight costs, loom large on the 'here be dragons' map of the coming year as obstacles to improved profitability. Pine Manufacturers Association (PMA) chief executive Lawrie Halkett believes 2006 will be just "a reasonable sort of year" for sawmillers and remanufacturers alike.
