Syria plans to start importing natural gas from Azerbaijan next year to cover a loom- ing deficit. “We plan to buy from 1 Bcm-1.5 Bcm of gas a year,” Syrian oil minister Sofian Allaw was quoted as saying Tuesday in the Azeri capital Baku. The minister said negoti- ations will start soon on pricing. A prelimi- nary agreement on importing around 1 Bcm/yr was reached when Syrian President Bashar al-Assad visited Baku last year.
