CNOOC, Petrochina Turn in Strong Third Quarter Performances

Chinese state oil and gas giants PetroChi-na and China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) both saw third-quarter earnings rise on the back of higher oil and gas prices. Monopoly offshore player CNOOC Thursday reported strong revenues of 38.91 billion yuan ($5.82 billion), up a hefty 63.8% from 2009's third quarter. Total revenues for the year so far are up an even larger 88.8% to 107.24 billion yuan, thanks to higher commodity prices as well as higher output.
