China's GDP grew 7.9% in the second quarter versus the same period of 2008, according to official data issued Thursday. That brings overall growth in the first half of the year to 7.1%, prompting analysts to predict the government will meet its 8% full-year target. First quarter growth was 6.1%. One major driver of the expansion has been industrial production, which increased over 10% in June compared with May.
