Editorial debate on the future of nurse education

摘要

In a recent issue of the International Nursing Studies I made a case for nursing to be a graduate profession (Norman, 2014). My editorial was in a response to some comments made by the UK Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Vince Cable, about qualification inflation and that one did not need a degree to be a nurse. In responding to my editorial Cable invited a debate on the balance to be struck between vocational and academic training and the potential of higher level (he cited level 4) apprenticeship training.
