摘要

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is often a complex disease from birth, potentially involving the skin, the central and peripheral nervous systems, muscles, bones, the gastrointestinal tract, the cardiovascular system, and various endocrine glands. Care becomes even more complex as the person with NF1 ages and progresses in terms ofboth NF1 and life's other medical-or simply biological-problems. It is time for clinicians to give special attention to those persons advancing in age in the context of NFL I am particularly aware of this as an internist who has followed many individuals with NF1 over the years. In short, many of us-clinicians, patients, and their family members-are pleased at the efforts made by Dr. Emily Oates and her colleagues to bring these matters front and center, particularly their efforts to deal with the "complications" of NF1 among "adult" patients with NF1.
