Bony metastatic transitional cell carcinoma in the absence of recurrent bladder disease-A case report

We present the case of a 77-year-old male who was found to have metastatic transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) to his skeleton despite having no evidence of recurrent bladder disease.The gentleman had been diagnosed with high grade superficial TCC in November 2005 (pT1 G3) and underwent a course of intravesical BCG. Past medical history included osteoarthritis, hypertension, peptic ulcer disease for which he had a vagotomy in 1971 and a pulmonary embolus in 2005. Regular check cystoscopies were clear until September 2007 when he was found to have pTa G2 recurrence and he underwent a course of intravesical mitomycin-C. In September 2008, he was found to have further pT1 G3 bladder disease and underwent a re-resection for accurate staging. This showed carcinoma in situ and he underwent a further course of intravesical BCG.
