Four forces influence company success: technology evolution, business model changes, globalization, and information technology developments. Current powder metals and particulate materials companies must redefine themselves to focus on the product functionality available through sintering various material combinations. The sintered materials company of the future will have web-based customer interfaces, will use artificial intelligence and complex software to develop designs and control production, and will offer customized solutions using ceramics, metals, and/or biological materials intertwined. A new frontier is opening. Emphasis on process innovation and integrated investments in people, technology and software will be essential to company health.
