摘要

FRP composites in the form of panels, blades and pipes will find broad applications in naval structures and shore facilities. In addition these finds applications in pipelines carrying sand slurry, fuel etc. Glass fiber polyester are one such materials finding substitution for metals in many areas. These materials are prepared using hand lay up technique as laminates and tested for mechanical behaviour such as hardness, impact, tensile, and compression. Moreover these materials were tested for erosion in slur environment using a pot erosion tester. Salt spray test was also conducted for 72 hours to find out the influence of corrosion in these kinds of materials. SEM showed localized material removal, crack formation and fiber fragmentation in few areas and erosion due to plastic deformation on rest of the zones of the laminate. Hence an effort has been made so as to replace the currently used material with GFRPs in order to gain better performance.
