Psychometric Properties of BDI-II I'N Mexican Adults*

Depression is a disorder that any person of any race and social class may suffer. It is accompanied by mood alterations, nervousness, concentration difficulty, feelings of guilt, low self-esteem and sleep disorders. It can become an important impediment to the use of individual skills in men and women. This study had the objective to examine BDI-II factor composition. 549 adult men and women of Mexico City from the population, in general (M_(edad) = 36.20 years old). After obtaining items discrimination, it was carried out a Promax factor analysis, which grouped 21 BDI-II depressive symptoms, in three factors related: cognitive (8 items); somatic (8 items), and affective (6 items). A total explained variance of 45.5% and a total Cronbach Alpha of 0.89. It is concluded scale is valid and reliable for Mexican adults.
