It's that time of the year again. Everyone seems to have something wrong with them. Aches and pains, paying off crediting cards, squeezing into tighter clothes, and no bank holiday on the horizon. Me, I've got a little tickle at the back of my throat. Professor Cary Cooper from the University of Lancaster aptly named such feelings of gloom: acute post-bank holiday depression syndrome. We are all quick to jump on the 'gloom' bandwagon. It seems inherent. But goodness knows there is a lot to be unhappy about at the moment. It is cold, cuts are coming, pay caps have divided the unions, and services are generally struggling. These are issues which nurses gets vocal about. But what about getting vocal when identifying an incompetent, unethical, or illegal situation in the workplace and reporting it to someone who may have the power to stop the wrong? Yes, whistleblowing.
