Traffic Planning and Decongestion of EVDO Networks

EVDO stands for Evolution Data Only or Evolution Data Optimize. It is a 3rd Generation CDMA wireless standard used for high data rates. Congestion in an EVDO network is the accumulation of data traffic at some point in the network leading to loss or blocking of data. It is a problem relating to the capacity of the network. Traffic planning plays an important role in minimizing congestion by pre- planning or designing a system to meet the network demands. Congestion management is the process of overcoming the problem of congestion by employing certain methods known as decongestion mechanisms. This process is also known as decongestion. In this paper, the traffic pattern of EVDO network is studied; the various causes of congestion are analyzed; congested areas of the network are identified and a suitable decongestion mechanism is applied on the same. After applying decongestion, the cluster performance of the network and its corresponding utilization is calculated. Thence the capacity of the network is increased.
