Co-commissioning primary care

In May 2014, NHS England announced that CCGs could submit expressions of interest (EOI) to develop co-commissioning arrangements for primary care services (Table 1). These EOI have been categorised A, B or C. This system gives the CCGs the opportunity to expand their role to help improve quality, support integration with health and social care services, cut inequalities, and put the NHS on a sustainable path for the next 5 years. The aim is to give local clinicians and communities more influence in how primary care services are developed (Primary Care Today, 2014).
