SURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF CERVICAL ESOPHAGEAL OBSTRUCTION IN A GOAT (CAPRA HIRCUS) - A CASE REPORT

A case of surgical management of cervical esophageal obstruction in a goat (Capra hircus) is reported. Obstruction of esophagus is common in ruminants however rare in small ruminants. Cervical part of esophageal wall is thicker; lumen appears as rosette shaped that could be the reason for obstruction in cervical part of the esophagus (Jit singh et al. 1993). Its caudal part is narrow and widen thereafter. Obstruction due to ingestion of vegetables, phytobezoars, leather piece, wool ball, polythene and rubber sheets (Ojha and Mohanty, 1970; Umakanthan, 1995; Dilipkumar et al 1998) were recorded. This case report describes about obstruction in goat due to lump of polythene and phytobezoars.
