Post-operative analgesic effect of epidural xylazine in combination with tramadol in dog

The study was conducted on two randomly divided groups of 18 healthy adult dogs of either sex including experimental and field cases of different breeds, Following the base line measurements, in Group-A, xylazine (0.75 mg/kg b.wt.) and in Group-B. xylazine (0.75 mg/kg b.wt.) and tramadol (2 mg/kg b.wt.) were epidurally injected at lumbosacral junction after making the volume upto 2.5 ml using normal saline. Data, recorded upto 48 hrs. at different time interval, were analysed in terms of various parameters. The postoperative analgesia of the operated part was determined by assessing the degree of variation of heart rate and by observing the reflex following pin pricking and pinching, Coadministration of xylazine and tramadol was found to be an effective package to control postoperative pain.
