摘要

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors, including abnormal lipid concentrations, often emerge during childhood (1) and are often associated with atherosclerosis in adulthood (2,3). Certain indigenous populations experience a disproportionately high prevalence of dyslipidaemia (4). Koya Indians are an unstudied population who live in San Antonio de los Cobres (SAC), Salta Province, northwestern Argentina (5). SAC has a population of 4274 inhabitants (~ 500 children) and is located in a remote mountainous region (altitude 3750 m) isolated from urbanisation and economic development (5). The purpose of this research was to determine the distribution of lipid levels and the association between lipids and BMI, blood pressure, haemoglobin and insulin levels among Koya children in SAC.
