HISTOPATHOLOGICAL STUDIES ON CANINE ENDOMETRIAL HYPERPLASIA PYOMETRA COMPLEX

Pyometra is a common metoestral disease of intact adult bitches (Dow, 1958). It is characterized by uterine bacterial infection with pus accumulating in the uterus and systemic illness (Borresen, 1975). Although the disease has been recognized for decades, the true etiopathogenesis has still not been completely understood. It is generally recognized that hormone progesterone, estrogen and their receptors play a role in the development of pyometra (Fransson, 2003). The present study was conducted on seven bitches weighing between eight to ten kilograms body weight to evaluate the different microscopic changes of endometrium in pyometra affected bitches.
