Toxic dermatitis in patients treated with Taxotere (docetaxel): three case reports.

In this report, in all three cases, the skin reactions were diagnosed as toxic dermatitis. The patients developed local symptoms at the site of docetaxel administration such as redness, pain and warmth which allow for other diagnoses such as erysipelas, fixed drug eruption and extravasation. Especially the latter can result in similar cutaneous reactions after docetaxel administration [5]. However, variations in the time of onset of symptoms may indicate whether extravasation is present, since in cases with toxic dermatitis after docetaxel, the skin eruption occurred 3-5 days after the fourth or fifth treatment only. In addition, skin reactions were most often observed at the site of injection, but in some patients they also occurred at distant skin locations, which indicates that these cutaneous side-effects are not due to extravasation of docetaxel [6, 7].
