A theoretical approach to determine characteristic values for pressures in silos is presented. An expression to define the confidence band for a given pressure function at any value of silo depth is established. Estimated values of pressures previously obtained from a nonlinear regression analysis are used. Wall friction coefficient and ratio of horizontal to vertical pressures are taken as fitting parameters. The expression obtained to determine characteristic values applies when normal distribution is suitable for silo pressures produced from solid material.
