In the present days, the complex power system creates more difficult problem. The conventional means of stability limit augmentations such as fast acting circuit breakers, fast excitation system and governing systems, high system voltage and use of HVDC lines, reduced transfer reactance of lines etc. are not capable of increasing stability limit to desired level, i.e. the conventional means have practically reached their limit. Now the time has come to deal with this problem in different manner. It has therefore become necessary to use additional control measures called Discrete Supplementary controls (DISCOS) to maintain the stability of power system. In this paper a strategy is presented which seeks the coordination of line dropping, fast valving with fast excitation system. The strategy is applied to a case where a super thermal power station is connected to infinite bus through EHV lines and the studies are carried out using software developed in "MATLAB".
