Technical Aspects of Modern Bio Fuels in Internal Combustion Engines

摘要

Biofuels stands out among the renewable sources of energy as a solution for increasing security in the supply of energy and for minimizing some of the environmental problems arising from the use of fossil fuels. Biofuels include bioethanol, biomethanol, vegetable oils, biodiesel, biogas, biooil, biochar etc. Ethanol is also an attractive alternative fuel because it is a renewable bio-based resources and it is oxygenated thereby providing the potential results in substantial reduction in emission of unburned hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide and particulate in compression ignition engines. Biodiesel is an environmentally friendly alternative liquid fuel that can be used in any diesel engines without modification. This review focuses on production and characterization of vegetable oils as well as the experimental work carried out in this field. In addition the scope and challenges being faced in this area of research are clearly described.
