Complaints and litigation in health care: issues and recommendations.

Reports by parliamentary committees on such important matters as healthcare complaints and litigation are important.The committees are thorough their deliberations and their reports can result in important changes to legislation and policy in the area; they can create an agenda for change.The Health Committee is appointed by the House of Commons to examine the policy, administration and expenditure, of the Department of Health and its associated bodies. It is a Select Committee and operates largely via an investigative process. An inquiry takes place in which evidence is given orally in person or in writing. There are witnesses and conclusions, and recommendations are made. The findings of the committee are reported to the Commons and published on the UK Parliament website (2011). From this point, the Government usually has 60 days to reply to the committee's recommendations.
