Growth of a goat pox virus isolate on the chorioallantoic membrane of developing chicken embryo

Durg isolate of goat pox virus (GPV) produced characteristic diffused greyish white pock lesions of 1-2 mm diameter on chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) of developing chicken embryo inoculated via CAM route. The pocks appeared haemorrhagic and ulceratedwith areas of central necrosis in some places. The pock lesions at secondary sites, although few in number, were more distinct and well marked. A virus titre of 2X10~6 PFU/ml was recorded at 6th passage.
