Idea Cellular has now overtaken the flagship Commodity businesses of the Aditya Birla Group to become its most valuable company. About a decade ago, it was considered a minnow in the Aditya Birla Group among giants such as Hindalco, Grasim and UltraTech. Today, the $40-billion Aditya Birla group, that has major exposure to smokestack businesses such as cement, aluminium and Viscose staple Fibre (VSF), has just witnessed its relatively young telecom business Idea Cellular - overtake its flagship commodity businesses to become the group's most valuable company.
