STREPTOCOCCAL MASTITIS IN DAIRY COWS

Mastitis is one of the most expensive dairy cattle disease in terms of production losses and annual prevention costs. The disease has polymicrobial etiology; staphylococci and streptococci being the most common mastitogens in India (Kumar, 2000). If the spectrum of pathogens involved in causing the disease is known with their antibiogram, the disease may be controlled at an early stage. Hence, the present investigation was undertaken to determine the etiology of mastitis, with special reference to Streptococcus species.
