von Willebrand Disease, Hemophilia A and B, and Other Factor Deficiencies

For anesthesiologists dealing with surgical patients with inherited coagulation disorders, understanding the pathophysiology of such disorders will help reduce excessive perioperative blood loss, unnecessary exposure to infectious agents, and the cost of using plasma and recombi-nant-derived coagulation products. This chapter will review von Willebrand disease, hemophilia A and B, and other coagulation factor deficiencies and recommend perioperative management strategies for each.
