PURPOSE: A process for producing a concentrate of a factor VIII:C-containing von Willebrand factor by fractional precipitation of a liquid comprising factor VIII:C and von Willebrand factor is provided. The concentrate of the factor VIII:C-containing von Willebrand factor is very rich in high molecular weight multimers. A drug for treating hemophilia A and symptoms of von Willebrand disease is prepared by mixing the concentrate and calcium ions as a stabilizer. CONSTITUTION: The concentrate of a factor VIII:C-containing von Willebrand factor is prepared by fractional precipitation of a liquid comprising factor VIII:C and von Willebrand factor using amino acid, preferably glycine, and alkali metals or alkali earth metal salts, preferably NaCl. The concentrate has an increased content of high molecular weight multimers of von Willebrand factor and a ratio of the vWF:RCoF activity to vWF:Ag of greater than 1. The concentrate is obtained from human plasma, plasma fractions, preferably cold precipitates or genetically modified cell materials.
