Last week, Sens. Carl Levin (D-MI), John McCain (R-AZ), Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and Tom Coburn (R-OK) introduced a groundbreaking bill that would look to both "name and shame" countries that support or tolerate attacks through cyberspace and block imports from the specific entities that engage in, or benefit from, economic espionage against U.S. companies. The Deter Cyber Theft Act, S. 884, was unveiled on May 7 and provides yet another indication that members of Congress are eager to respond to this issue. "We need to call out those who are responsible for cyber theft and empower the president to hit the thieves where it hurts most - in their wallets, by blocking imports of products or from companies that benefit from this theft," Levin said in a statement.
