China Demands New Ractopamine-Free Certificates For U.S. Pork Exports

China is moving ahead with a new requirement, effective March 1, that U.S. pork exporters accompany all shipments to China with a certificate stating that their product is free of ractopamine, a growth-promoting veterinary drug that is used in the majority of U.S. livestock production. China is implementing this requirement despite opposition by the U.S. meat industry, which has urged the government in Beijing to at least agree to postpone the new measure.
