The controversial Patents(Amendment)Act 2005(hereafter "2005 Act")was purportedly India's last and final step towards achieving complete TRIPS compliance.Coming close on the heels of and succeeding an even more controversial Patents(Amendment)Ordinance 2004,this Act faced severe opposition from various quarters,including the Communist Party of India(CPI)-a party that supports the ruling coalition government.
