Meat, Poultry Groups Praise Strong U.S. Stance Toward Japan In TPP

Five U.S. meat and poultry groups this week applauded President Obama for taking a "strong stance" in Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) talks with Japan and not giving in to Tokyo's demands to protect sensitive items. "We appreciate that, in the latest round of talks in Tokyo on a [TPP] agreement, your representatives did not capitulate to Japan's continuing attempts to maintain protectionist barriers to our products," the groups said in an April 16 letter to Obama. The signatories said they look forward to a positive outcome in the TPP negotiations that they can "enthusiastically support in the Congressional ratification process that will follow."
